Item Software FAQ

Several common questions are listed below to assist you in working with our products.

Where do I get the math behind the models used in ITK? (Q-8)

Click the Help menu, or the yellow ? to view the formulas used in the various modules/methods within ITK. Referring to the specific specification is also very helpful. A right-click on the Results Summary window, available via the Analysis menu on the top menu bar, will also show you the equations.

Can ITEM send me the actual MIL, Bellcore etc. specifications in PDF form? (Q-9)

Some specifications are by subscription only, so you will need to purchase those from the provider. Other specs are available via the Internet.

How strict is ITEM adherence to the various prediction specifications? (Q-10)

ITEM follows the specs exactly, and has had all calculations confirmed by several outside entities. For convenience, ITEM has added an External part category, enabling engineers to add types of components to their systems that were not considered in the original spec. Additionally, an Adjustment Factor has also been added (default is 1) that can be used to adjust specific parameter values up or down for added flexibility.

Does ITEM support Windows 2003? (Q-17)

Yes.

Can you run the network client on the same physical server as the License server? (Q-26)

No, the C: installation files and the registry do not allow this combination.

How do I get the passwords for the Libraries included on the ITK CD? (Q-35)

Some libs are included with the license, others cost extra. The included ones are: NonElec 95/NPRD 95 FMLib 97 - FMD 97 Parts Count COMPLIB Mil-M-38510 Contact ITEM directly to obtain the passwords to the .zip files.

iQRAS licensing over a network? (Q-45)

Version 1.82 (or before) of QRAS does not include License Manager scheme or TCP/IP. File share is the only network method as of that release, up to version 1.8.9. Version 2.0+ supports TCP/IP licensing.

How can multiple network users share a license? (Q-69)

Network user opens a project with MIL and Fault Tree modules… Company owns one seat for each. Another user creating a project will only see modules in demo mode. When user #1 shuts down Toolkit, licenses are returned and available to User #2.

Does ITEM Toolkit install anything other than itself on the PC? (Q-70)

Installation – Toolkit installs Borland and Crystal Reports engines, so it may conflict with existing installs/old versions on client and server systems. Use the License Server concept if this is an issue.

Do I have to have Parts Libraries for Toolkit to give me MTBF data? (Q-118)

No. You can model any part that is listed in any of the prediction modules and obtain MTBF results. Additionally, you can add an External part, of which you provide the parameter values to model it with. Libraries make the construction of your systems easier and more consistent.

How does QRAS build the Event Trees as part of the Analysis? (Q-136)

An Event Tree for each Event Sequence Diagram (ESD) is built and quantified when an Analysis is run.

How is Latin Hypercube Sampling implemented in ToolKit, and where do I control it? (Q-158)

LHS is used in the Uncertainty analysis of Fault Tree and RBD events and blocks. On the System Dialog window, check the Uncertainty box, and enter the LHS Sample Size parameter. You can also specify a percentile from the confidence curve in addition to the standard 5% and 95% to appear on the Results view after analysis.

Is Mathematica TM (www.wolfram.com) required to use the distributions within iQRAS? (Q-167)

Only the Advanced Distributions, such as Function of Variables, Logistic Regression, etc. require Mathematica to be installed on the same PC as iQRAS. The most typically used distribution, Point Estimate and Uncertainty does NOT require Mathematica.
