ToolKit FMECA ModuleThe Failure Modes Effects and Criticality / Diagnostics Analysis Module provides the full framework for performing design, process, system or component FMEA / FMECA / FMEDA to a variety of standards including MIL-STD-1629a, BS 5760 Part 5, ISO 9000, ISO 14971, and IEC 61508. It provides interactive graphical facilities for constructing a hierarchy representing the logical connections between the sub-systems and components or functions, constituting the overall system or process. This hierarchy may be extended to represent failure modes at other hierarchical levels, and may be developed either from the top down, or the bottom up. Design and Process FMEA are also easily constructed using this module, as are the application of root cause analysis techniques.
A large proportion of the data entered when performing a FMECA is descriptive text. The FMECA Module provides a phrase library facility containing commonly used descriptions of component / functions, failure modes and effects. These greatly speed up data entry and have the added benefit of keeping common phrases consistent. Phrases in this library may be customized to suit your own requirements and may be imported/exported from a variety of sources for further utility. Process failure analysis, root cause failure analysis, design failure analysis, and failure mode analysis are further examples of how the FMECA module can be used. Results such as Risk Priority Number (RPN), Safe Failure Fraction (SFF), and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) can be used to make decisions about process reengineering. The module is a complete Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) tool. The FMECA Module also includes a failure mode and apportionment library, derived from MIL-HDBK-338, which allows you to create commonly used component and failure mode groupings. The apportionment library can either be used when manually creating a FMECA or to automatically create failure modes and apportionments when transferring data from ITEM ToolKit’s Prediction modules. This capability can dramatically reduce analysis times making you more productive. The FMECA Module provides data management, reporting and analytical facilities for performing a FMECA. These include:
